A Few Things To Say Yes To

Luna Bars - I am not usually a huge fan of this type, I prefer a Quest or Zing bar in a pinch, but I will admit the flavor in the Chocolate Coconut Almond was one of the most pleasurable I've had in bar form. Very yummy!

Rock My Run - this is my new favorite app. So far, I have stuck with the free version and been very happy. You can choose mixes to stream that are 45 minutes minutes or less.
Rock My Run

I have a nice little collection going that are my go tos. The app has all different mixes from rap to country, and I love the variety. My forward button on my wireless headphones still works in case I really want to skip a song in the mix, but most of them, I have been happy to play from start to finish.

Going gray - my hair is getting lighter and lighter these days and I have given up, gone are my reddish brown days. My hair so white, more than 70-80% gray according to my hair gal, so why fight it. I am not letting it go all the way yet, but you may see a more blonder me.

A marathon - I still would love to accomplish this before I turn 50. I was so nervous about running and the impact on my leg, during the princess weekend, I didn't think I would feel the urge to try to get back to training so soon, but I do. I think it is worse :/ However, my bone will take awhile to strengthen, so realistically I am trying to wait it out, but it's all I can think about right now.

What is on your yes list today?

  1. OK. Here is a tidbit about me. I should be a brunette, but my hair is completely white and started turning that way in elementary school. It's hereditary. My father and his mother had beautiful snow white hair. I dye it a light blond just to give it some color. So there you go...now we are BFFs. PS. I love Luna bars but wish they had more protein.

    1. My Dad was snow white too:) I love your blonde hair, and it's just easier to go blonder, I am tired of fighting roots!
Amen on the Luna bars!! I think most have maybe 9-12 grams of protein, and I look for bars with 18 to 20, but the coconut was so good and this flavor has 12 grams of protein. We think alike!

    2. I'm currently addicted to Chocolate Peanut Butter Zone bars. They have a little more protein. I would look like a skunk after one week of dying my hair dark. My hair grows too fast for that. I use a golden blonde (Loreal 9G to be exact) which has red tones. Blondes have more fun? And have to suffer through the blonde jokes...HA

    3. :) That's what has been happening to me - skunked in two weeks lol I am headed toward that 9 range, I like golden tones!

  2. Ok. My hair is naturally dark brown but I have been dyeing it since I was 35. It is auburnish with lighter highlights. I can't imagine going all gray - I'm too vain. yes, feel the same about Luna bars.

Maybe I'll run a full before I hit 70 or not.

    1. I like your color!
I can tell the half is your favorite distance - you race a lot! I just want to do a full once :)

  3. I love Clif bars. They're the only "bar" I'll eat now. So filling and taste great!

I forgot to tell you earlier but I just LOVED your costume during the race! Or wait did I tell you this? My memory is going, I swear.

You'll get your marathon one day, Karen. It sucks waiting, but you're not alone. Sometimes the timing is just off for these things, but it will be back on one day. In the meantime, remember to practice gratitude (that's what helps me get through periods like this) - like, how grateful you are that you are not under the pressure of marathon training scheduling, don't have to freak out about missing a workout or skimping on mileage, and can enjoy getting by with single-digit mileage runs and not having to do freakishly long runs! Use this time to pay more attention to your other interests outside of running and the time will pass before you know it. Doesn't it always? :)

    1. Thanks Hanna :) I wasn't very creative with the costume, but it worked lol
I do like the taste of Cliff bars, my hubby likes those as well.
I do enjoy being free from "have to" it's kind of nice! This was such a rough winter to train in, a little part of me was glad I couldn't when I would see it 3 degrees out lol
Time just keeps rolling and I am not getting any younger...eek!

  4. Those Luna Protein bars are very tasty and filling. I like them much more then the regular Luna bars. I have never heard of that app. Will have to check it. -L

    1. Yes, I do think the Luna Protein is a tasty option. If it didn't have the little increase of protein I probably would have never tried it :)
      It's a good app!

  5. I'm really glad to hear that you're going to give the marathon another try after you heal up!

I have way too many grey hairs for my age. My hair gal told me I need to think about adding in highlights to hide them! I'm nervous to start that cycle because I know then I'll have to keep up with it forever and I have very little patience for sitting at the hair salon!

    1. I would delay the coloring as much as possible because you are so right, keeping up with it stinks! LOL and it's expensive...my hubby has become my colorist and he's quite skilled :)
I hope my leg doesn't give me any trouble, of course I have the urge because I haven't actually run yet, except for Princess weekend.

  6. I recently tried those luna bars too and really liked them. Usually they are not my thing. I think white or grey hair can be beautiful, so don't be worried! I'm trying to say yes to challenging myself in ways that I fear more (things I think I will be rejected for).

    1. You are a tough cookie ultra runner!! Rejection is always tough, but you have resilience :)

  7. I find my hair is so much lighter than it used to be, so far I don't dye it and I never have but I think at some point vanity will take over and then I will. I really love my hair, but then at some point I plan to just embrace it.
I love those luna bars too, I hide them from my kids :)

Always have to hide a few treats somewhere right lol :)

  8. Yes, I have to dye my hair too. I wonder what age I will just embrace the white/gray...I think I am too vain to do it in the near future!
I like the Cliff Kind bars--chocolate/cherry!

  9. OH, I forgot to say, I go get my roots touched up before a race, I swear it makes me run faster (it's my secret weapon!)

    1. I love it!! I must try this and see if it helps me go faster LOL

  10. Karen, I downloaded RockMyRun!! I'm excited to have a new way to get workout music; the weather is supposed to warm up here in Colorado so I'm hoping to get out and enjoy being outdoors again (I have a new jogging stroller!!).

Hmm what's on my YES list? Lately I've been saying yes to not having to do household chores every day. It's OK to spend time with my little baby and focus on her. The house comes second. :-)

    1. I hope you can find some mixes that you like! I do like to zone out to music :)
Hopefully you will get to enjoy some good walk/runs with your new stroller, Colorado sure is pretty.
The chores will always be there, but baby time is precious :)

  11. Love this post, Karen!

    1. I didn't know you were a Questbar fan, why didn't I know that?:0 What's your favorite flavors? I also only like 1 Luna bar haha, think it was White Chocolate Macadamia or something. And now I want to try that one! But I'll have to wait 'til July because I don't think they have Luna bars in Norway :(
    2. Embrace the silver, darling!:) i personally think it looks beautiful when "worn" with confidence. And the less you dye your hair, the less damaged it gets - which again makes the hair look a lot nicer. That's my opinion of course :)
    3. I'm so glad you've still got marathons on your mind :D do whatever you can to strenghten your leg, then one day - maybe sooner than you think, you'll be running that marathon!:D

My yes list today, uhm.. YES to waking up early! YES to the new season of RuPaul's Drag Race! YES to never ever skip a week of meal prep ever again (this week i didn't prep anything and every day has been so messed up and I never know what to eat). YES to working long hours so I can buy a computer that doesn't take 1 hour to turn on hahah. That's my yes list right now. Sad list, but at least it's a list xD

    1. I've only had chocolate Quest bars. I've thought about ordering the protein in peanut butter and going on a shake recovery spell again. I was using VEGA Recovery which I also love, but you know how I am with the blender...lazy!
Embracing the silver is coming...baby steps!
      RuPaul's Drag race LOL
I need to start meal prep, it is so nice being prepared!
and Yes, say NO to slow electronics lol the spinning is so frustrating.

  12. I like the lemon Luna bars. The chocolate ones are little sweet for me (I can't believe I actually said that!).

I'd love to see you do a marathon! If you train properly, you should do great! My last one was done with low mileage and a lot of cross training. And no injuries! :)

    1. I have become the queen of cross training lately :) Hoping it will pay off.
Do you have the last plan you did, or blog about it? I was on a twenty week plan that kept me in the 25-30 miles a week range until the last few peak weeks at almost 40. Increasing mileage again worries me for sure.
