Walking Wednesday

I woke up today and walked...mostly. It was nice and cool, so I decided to throw some strides in to get my blood flowing. It was a great compromise that gave my leg a chance to rest.

Monday at work I took a trip upwards on the steps. I actually missed the step and hit my foot with a hard jar. How klutzy, been walking almost 50 years and still can't get it right...
My leg ached all day intermittently after that. It made me nervous, it hasn't really ached that much in my "spot" since I went to PT and he broke the scar tissue loose. SO, Monday I knew I needed rest.
Hubby, so thoughtful, suggested I get my toes done.

If you are on Instagram you already saw this...sorry for the repeat lol
I love Instagram by the way...Karenrunsva  if you want to connect.

Megan  has been walking, being smart, trying to rehab some persistent niggles. She posts great stuff everyday and is a continual source of inspiration to me, as so many of you are.
Robyn who I work with, is also taking a break this week and walking...she became a first time marathoner this year with an amazing 4:08:42 http://robynslivinglife.blogspot.com/2015/03/im-shamrock-marathoner.html
Positive peer pressure :) Anyone need a little walk break with us?

Strides are awesome! Woke my quads up a bit, worked up a great sweat, and got my heart rate going, but, it stills feel like a lot less impact walking in between. Score! Think I'll do this again tomorrow.
The weather has taken a turn towards phenomenal and I want to make the most it.

I love this!
I also caught some issues with my running form, that I am working on while I stride. I am tensing a bit downhill, and kind of reacting by "putting the brakes on" which sends bad energy up the tibia, so I worked on letting the natural flow happen. Maybe something good will come out of this...
I will have a great reduction in running this week, but I won't call it a wash. It's modification as needed.

Cheers,
Karen

How's your week going? has your weather taken a turn towards phenomenal? need to join the "walking club" for a bit?

  1. I have noticed that the more I "put on the brakes" when running down hill the worse I feel. I am working on my form, but I definitely can't "glide" down hills as I could maybe 10 years ago!
I have a half marathon Sunday and then I am taking a week off in preparation for marathon training. I hope to walk and bike during that week.
Sounds like taking a walking break is a good idea for you too! Always better safe, than sorry!

    1. I hope I can correct some of these form issues, it's a real challenge. Your gait just kind of happens, it's hard to start adapting things, but I am hopeful. Since I realize I am doing it now, I hope I can change it.
Exciting you have a race coming up! I look forward to hearing all about it :)

  2. I'm LOL about not getting the walking right after 50 years. Great pedicure. Oh, how I need one! I'm waiting on that stupid blister to completely heal. I've been lazy so far this week...stupid cold. But, it's probably a much needed break anyway. That's what I'm telling myself anyway!

I hope the cold gets better, it'll zap the energy levels for sure. My feet were in rough shape before I did this. Treat yourself soon, It's flip flop time :)

  4. Good for you for giving your leg a break and taking a walk after you irritated it. Sometimes it seems so simple to rest but so hard to do!

    1. Yes it is harder than it should be quite often. I am fearful of the boot though, so that helps!

  5. I have never incorporated strides into my walking. Sounds like a great idea. Love the color on your toes. I am due for a pedicure. The weather was so chilly while we were in California. Glad to be back in the humidity on the east coast.

  6. I will be walking, too, since Monday I hyper-extended my knee coming off a curb! Aren't you so jealous? For now, however, I am cycling and swimming until I can walk and not have it ache -- maybe by the weekend. After that I will do a few walks to really know it's healed then come back to my run/walks that I normally do. Sounds like many of us are in the "take a week or two to recovery" mode!

    1. Well that stinks :( Sorry you pulled the knee out of whack. Do you ice? I always seem to heal quicker when i ice. I guess a bunch of us are in the recovery mode phase, hopefully you'll be back to feeling zippy soon! Thanks for stopping by

  7. Your toes are pretty! I love that your hubby suggested a pedi. Our weather has been rainy and cold. At least today it's sunny and cold. Moving in the right direction!

  9. How do you and Meg walk SO FAST? Seriously! My walking pace is like 17 minute mile! Or, if I'm being lazy like 21 minute mile!

    1. LoL the running increases the avg pace a lot! I usually walk about 15:30 when strolling along. It's a sickness, this morning I tried to increase my avg pace just a little

    2. LOL I take after my mom! I walk with a purpose. Plus I am a teacher and sometimes only have 2 minutes to walk upstairs to the copy room and make 25 copies and then walk back downstairs...

    3. Megan on a mission :) You do have a speedy walking pace. I couldn't go as fast, if had not thrown in those strides lol

  10. The walking club is the best. I always have those weeks where I don't feel like working out but taking my dog for a walk gets me up and moving at least a little bit!

  11. LOL, I trip all the time too. I think it's why trail running is so draining for me!

P.S. You have the nicest runner's feet. Mine are not safe for public viewing. :P

  12. I experienced some great running weather while on vacation, but now I'm back to hoping that I get used to the humidity soon! I've been working on running form this week after seeing a video of myself running, but it's hard to change old habits.

    1. Hubby did a video in slow motion for me and it did make me more aware when I went out doing strides, but you are so right! So hard to change old habits. If you figure out some tips you must share :)

  13. "been walking almost 50 years and still can't get it right" HAHAHAH you made my day :'D Made me laugh so hard I almost started crying xD Which I feel kind of bad about because you hurt yourself.. Sorry about that :( It's probably a good idea to take it easy for a few days. Let that leg heal.

Yesterday we had some pretty wonderful weather, but other than that it's mostly rain rain rain.. I'm probably going to drown soon, stupid rain x)

Hope you're having a great weekend, Karen! :)

    1. It's been a fun weekend, but it's nasty humid here again.
I swear sometimes I am so klutzy lol
My leg is still funky so I guess I will be keeping the mileage low. I may need to turn in my runner card.
Hope you are feeling better now!

  14. Since I've started running, I've been so bad at walking for exercise. I need to use it for cross-training/recovery more than I do.

    Pretty toes! :)
