Theme of Last Week ~ Bleary

I decided I would try an evening run since the humidity is usually a tick lower as the day progresses, but it was so hot, it made no difference. It felt beyond tough... in fact it stole my running mojo for a few days. Ran a 5K, then walked two miles. After the sun went down I was able to run two more miles, but I felt crazy drained.

5K - 10:20 avg.   2 miles - 9:22 avg.

Hubby and I went to the gym ~ cycled 10 miles and did some light strength training for 50 minutes.

I started adding these into my work out. If you haven't tried this, you should it feels tough, but great.

I got up and ran 4 miles before work. It felt tough, my legs felt noodled (no idea from what?) ¯\_()_/¯

10K Friday ♡ with run buddy. We were both were drenched from the very thick, dormant feeling air, and struggled at different points, but we managed to keep moving. So, I call it a win...
We walked two miles after we ran and it felt much more manageable.
10K 10:29 avg.

Later hubby and I went to the gym - 3 miles on the treadmill, and it's the first time my leg didn't ache after a treadmill run!

We spent about 50 minutes doing core work.

My legs felt like toast...I am losing my stamina when it comes to distance running.
15 minute warm up on the elliptical
Hubby and I lifted for almost an hour and a half. We walked 20 minutes on the treadmill as a cool down, I could't have run if you stuck $100 bills under my nose.

Look at that... a real breeze! I wasn't going to miss a chance to run even though my legs were feeling tired.

5K 9:40 avg. ㋡

I had some moments where I pushed hard for sure, but I never had a day where I felt 100% on, ready to roll. It felt like my Monday run sucked up all my mojo, and my legs felt fatigued all week.

Do you find you need a much longer recovery time in heat?

I saw my endocrinologist this week, more about that in another post, but she reminded to be extra careful in heat...

"I am losing my running endurance when it comes to distance stamina."  Ever been through this panic?

I was grateful to have one run where a breeze was actually blowing!
Did you get to enjoy any breezy days last week?

Happy Trails to you,

Deb Runs - Link up!

Lots of stuff annoys me…

People who drag the brakes going downhill.

People at the gym who walk and stop in front of me, when I doing a set in the mirror...arrrghhh.

Aging…seeing my skin get so wrinkly and spotty…the huge brown spots are awful on the self esteem.

Aches and pains...I have a band in my shoulder that is aggravating me quite often lately.

That I try to do the right thing by strength training and taking care of myself, and it makes new aches and pains…super annoying.

Freaking humidity…

When I lose a pound and realize my already flat, size A physique,  just took another hit, and that my tummy is still happily saggy.

That my face still breaks out and I am almost 50 years old….ahhhhh!

Getting in the shower and feeling that special sting…body glide fail.

Waking up to run and finding I don’t have a clean sports bra.

So yes, there is annoying stuff everyday, and I have found the best way to combat it is with laughter.

A little humor is good for soul...

You can always find humor in every day things.

Sometimes it's with my own immature thoughts...

or funny posts...

or by how bad some folks can get on your nerves...

Maybe on a particularly bad day you may need one of these... (•◡•)

 or something a little special

Do what you got to do....

Black Light Run

The storm warnings started in the afternoon and I tried to ignore them. I had a fun run planned, dang it!

My honey signed up to do the Back Light Run with me. He doesn't run, his foot was crushed in a motorcycle accident years ago, and can't withstand that much impact, so we planned to walk/jog it a bit. I didn't care if we crawled, I was so excited to do this together.

We arrived and the sky looked okay...

I wanted cute Glow pictures, I tried all night without much luck...

Too early to glow, so I had a beer and ran a mile around the field while DJ Automatic played.

Honey ate a pulled pork sandwich and Mountain Dew...clearly this was all about fun

The sky was looking good about 40 minutes before the start. The event was at a race track, so there was lots of open space.

Then the sky opened up...huge pelting drops about 15 minutes before start time. I tried to be optimistic and think the storm had missed us.

and kept trying to capture a fun Glow picture...¯\_()_/¯
 the one of my Honey

Bouncing up and down to the music...ready to roll, a 9 p.m. start time...and about a mile in the wind kicked and booom...lightning like crazy. We ended in huge puddles, the rain was coming so fast it was ankle deep in some spots. We made it 2.5 miles, took a short cut back to the car, and called it a night.

Honey put our shoes out to dry the next day - I think they survived...

However, my son's car did not fair so well, the storm was actually worse at home, and down came the neighbors tree on his car...sigh...

SO, it wasn't a perfect night, but I still enjoyed the time with my Honey more than anything

Have you run a Black Light Run? Do you have any fun runs on your calendar? ...the Color run, the Glow run, Black Light Run, lots of options now :)

The Winners Are...

The Runners Choice Giveaway

I pulled my Rafflecopter winners and congrats to

I will email you all for addresses.
I hope you enjoy the oil and it helps sooth your running or cycling feet.
I got a new look for mine recently...

I am working four ten hour days for summer and they feel long, but I think that may turn my Friday off into my "long run" day. Friday, I got run buddy out of bed early and we managed a 10K. A friend to talk with was a much needed distraction from how hard this run felt. I hope I can convince Kasey to come on a few more Friday runs this summer...
Even at conversational pace (10K)1:04:30, we had to fight to keep it moving. I drank two liters of water with Nuun and my confidence about distance running continues to shrink...

Monday I thought..."I LOVE running, right?"

Wednesday a.m., I was finally rewarded with a pretty sunrise, an awesome change from the thick gray haze the past few weeks.

Friday I washed towels for the second time this week. Sometimes it feels I can't scrub enough after these sweaty runs...

and cheers to doing it all again next week!

How are you feeling these days? How far was your "long run" this week?

Keeping It Real & A Giveaway

I deeply appreciate each and every comment left on my "Motivation" post. I will get back on track and catch up with all of you this upcoming week. I spent almost the whole week taking antibiotics before I started to feel a real improvement - craziness, that's tooo long!

Being sick for so long put quite a kink in my running, just 14.8 miles last week, but yes, I did have four very active days despite my low running mileage. I have been trying to gear up on the cycle at the gym, and really engage my glutes since my running has been kind of slack, and I lifted like a beast :)

I need to work on equalizing the humidity verses Karen score, hopefully this week will bring some better runs.

I have not had a pedicure since May 11th. Even though my past two weeks have been a little lighter than normal, I did run 70 miles in May, so I still put some decent mileage on my tootsies.

I started using a new product, The Runner’s Choice, back in April. I wanted time to use it before I reviewed it and offered it to you for a giveaway.
The Runner’s Choice is scientifically formulated with 100% natural botanical oils of almond, eucalyptus, eucalyptol, wintergreen, peppermint and spearmint. It is designed for people that run 3 miles or more at a time or for those that are on their feet all day.

I have always had a spot on left foot that callouses and tends to get really hard.   I try to get a pedicure about once a month and scrub and lotion my feet in between to keep the area soft.  If  I get lazy with the pumice stone, it's my nemesis spot, it will get hard and cause my foot to feel numb, or really burn on longer runs.
So I was excited to try this product to see if it helped my problem area.
I pleased to tell you, it has been great for my feet.
These are my tootsies, a month since my last pedicure...

Usually after this long I have hard spots on the side of my toes and lots of cracking on my heels, but this has been minimized by using the oil all month.
And my spot...SORRY about the foot picture, but hey, trying to keep it real...and it is a foot product, after all.

My calloused spot is significantly softer than usual, so I call it a win.
I love this stuff
I used it several nights a week before I went to bed and after my runs.
It does not feel greasy and soaks in fully in about three to four minutes. Since I have cats and lots of loose hairs flying around my house I never walk around without my slippers. I spread the oil on and put my feet right in my slippers, but it didn't leave them feel greasy. It does have an interesting fragrance, but isn't unpleasant at all. It has soothed my feet for sure, and a bottle will last quite awhile, mine is still 3/4 full after all those uses.
I was provided a free bottle to review, but all opinions and experience are my own.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to leave them in a comment. I promise to be back on track answering every one :)
