Black Light Run

The storm warnings started in the afternoon and I tried to ignore them. I had a fun run planned, dang it!

My honey signed up to do the Back Light Run with me. He doesn't run, his foot was crushed in a motorcycle accident years ago, and can't withstand that much impact, so we planned to walk/jog it a bit. I didn't care if we crawled, I was so excited to do this together.

We arrived and the sky looked okay...

I wanted cute Glow pictures, I tried all night without much luck...

Too early to glow, so I had a beer and ran a mile around the field while DJ Automatic played.

Honey ate a pulled pork sandwich and Mountain Dew...clearly this was all about fun

The sky was looking good about 40 minutes before the start. The event was at a race track, so there was lots of open space.

Then the sky opened up...huge pelting drops about 15 minutes before start time. I tried to be optimistic and think the storm had missed us.

and kept trying to capture a fun Glow picture...¯\_()_/¯
 the one of my Honey

Bouncing up and down to the music...ready to roll, a 9 p.m. start time...and about a mile in the wind kicked and booom...lightning like crazy. We ended in huge puddles, the rain was coming so fast it was ankle deep in some spots. We made it 2.5 miles, took a short cut back to the car, and called it a night.

Honey put our shoes out to dry the next day - I think they survived...

However, my son's car did not fair so well, the storm was actually worse at home, and down came the neighbors tree on his car...sigh...

SO, it wasn't a perfect night, but I still enjoyed the time with my Honey more than anything

Have you run a Black Light Run? Do you have any fun runs on your calendar? ...the Color run, the Glow run, Black Light Run, lots of options now :)

  1. I usually stuff my shoes with newspaper when they get wet. Works great!

Looks like a bad storm! It's been crazy this spring.

    1. It was a powerful storm, we've had a lot of lightening storms.
I will have to try newspaper ;)

  2. Ha-ha. A pulled pork sandwich and mountain dew--that's bravery!
So sorry about your son's car! Ouch.
It is fun doing races with family. I did a glow run last year with Dave and the kids--FUN!

Hubby cracks me up, I didn't want to eat, but the beer was just fine lol

  3. It looks like fun, before the skies opened up anyway. I did a Glow Run once at the very last minute...after eating a full supper of sausage & rice. It was not pretty. Glad to know the storms didn't do even more damage but it's a bummer about your son's car! Doesn't it seem to you like there's just always something? I've just learned to anticipate the "next whatever".

    1. Story of my life...LOL What next, it is always something.
I tend not to take fun runs too serious, but I will be careful what I eat before the next one. Sausage and rice not good running fuel, huh?!

  4. Never done a fun race. Haven't convinced my hubby to run with me neither. I have run in the run...too many times.

    1. All the racing you do and no fun runs?! Maybe you could walk mostly and hubby would do a 5K with you one day :)

  5. Yikes, sorry about your son's car!! Glad no one was hurt or anything.

Happy to see you and hubby had such a fun time despite the weather! That's the most important thing. I'm amazed they didn't call off the race with that lightning! I don't think I could convince my boyfriend to do a run with me. He also hurt his foot a while back and running would probably be bad for it. Maybe one day I'll get him out there!

    1. It was interesting Hanna, the race guys up on stage just kind of acted liked it wasn't happening...I guess they figured we weren't getting out anytime soon, it was a huge crowd. We sat quite awhile in traffic getting out. We mostly were going to walk, but hubby did jog some :) He can only do that in small doses. Maybe one K will do a 5K with you and you can just go easy.

It was still fun while it lasted :)

  9. Oh no, the car!! So scary! And bummer the rain had to ruin your glow run parade. Love the pics and so much fun to do a race w/ your hubby.

  11. Wait, are you saying that the elite runners don't eat pulled pork and wash it down with a Mountain Dew? I thought it would give me some extra OOMPH....⚡️☔️

  12. Ugh I am sorry about the tree falling on your son's car. So glad he is okay. Lightening scares me! I don't think I would have made it 2.5 miles. It's storming here right now. I'm supposed to go to the grocery store but I'm waiting until it stops!

If you have time wait it out :) The grocery store, I can always find a list of reasons not to go lol

  13. That looks like so much fun. I LOVE running in the rain, however, I am completely terrified of lightening so I think I would have wet my pants and started to cry (but no one would notice in all that rain). I don't run races but love to follow along w/ other that do--especially fun ones like this!!

    1. Even if you don't do races, a Black Light or Glow run, are usually really fun and there always plenty who walk them if you don't feel like running :)
I did my first 10K for fun and got hooked.
