I want to introduce to you the cutest puppy in the world...Chandler.

No, he isn't mine, but I get to enjoy him every day :)
I work at a Tech Center with a Vet Science course.  The teacher recently adopted this little cutey. He comes to work everyday and I love watching him grow, he has doubled in size already :)

The week started slow...
Monday it snowed and I had a day off work. I sort of cleaned my house, and I did a little meal prep for lunches  #winning

Tuesday it was this...

Weird, right!
It rained so hard in the morning all the snow melted, and then the sun came out.
I got 20 awesome miles in after work. I had just a slither of light when I finished.

I didn't die quite as much on the hills this time. I am making a smidgen of progress :)
Also, I knew daylight was drying up, so it made me push myself. The first six miles I knocked out were PR pace for me.
I am not running, but I am still doing hill work!
It is just an average park, but it does provide a much better workout than my neighborhood.

I have gained some weight the past few months. I need to get a grip and halt the train.
Why does it pack on so much easier than it comes off!?

There is one thing my body is really efficient at...
Preserving and increasing my middle roll. It is aggravating!
Of course I went to a birthday party tonight and had cake! Monday, I'll get on that healthier kick Monday...
On a completely different note, I got this handy little stainless steel reusable K cup. Best thing ever! The coffee tastes better and I save money #winning

If you saw my Thursday post,  you know I pulled out a pair of Hoka's I wore while injured last year. I wish I would have thought of this sooner! My feet improved already wearing them. Impact can't penetrate these things. I am not comfortable with how high they are, but they work for now.

My Doc called when my orthodics came in, and I left work Friday to go pick them up.

My shiny new lease on life. I hope they help deeeeeees feet!

My Doc loved my Hoka's because they do protect my feet ...in fact, he wants me to try my first few run/walks in them.
Okay Doc, I'll do it for you :)

Saturday it was pretty warm and I thought I was going to get a long ride in. I drove an hour to get to this trail. I had my pack on, ready to do it!

Well guess what!? Biking can kick your tush as much as running.

The limestone trail was soaked and it was like pedaling in quicksand. I wish I would have just went to my usual park. #notwinning
Isn't working out supposed to be kind of fun?! I had to bag it...
This ride was not fun.
SO painfully slow lol

MondayRest! (snow day)
Tuesday Cycling 20.40 mi (1:47:15) stretching
WednesdayWalking and talking

SaturdayCycling 13.73 mi (1:44:51)
Sunday Cycling 3.50 miles (16:35)
 74 min. leg work

I got 46.98 cycling miles accomplished this week. Tuesday and Saturday outdoors. My hill session Tuesday rocked! I had hoped my mileage would be a bit higher, but it's all good. I worked hard Sunday at the gym doing legs :)

I am just glad to have another week in February gone.
Counting down the days to March, so I can try a little running again.

These crazy weather swings are the strangest ever!
Are you experiencing them in your area?
Anyone ever get humbled trying to pedal?
Have you tried reusable K cups yet? TRY!!!
How was your week?
What was your best workout?

  1. My bike was my bestie when I broke my feet. Both times. It's a great way to preserve endurance. In fact, I love my bike so much that I've brought it full on into my marathon training.

My son uses reuseable k-cups. He likes them! Who knew?

    1. Over the past year I have learned to love my bike a lot more :) I think i am getting ready to take the next step and try some trail riding.
Reusable K cups are awesome. I am surprised at how much better the coffee tastes :)

  2. Good luck on getting back to running. I love my Hoka. They are so old and I know I need to order a new pair but I can't seem to part with them. also might want to try Altras they are similar to Hokas'

    1. Thank you :) I hope my feet are ready!
That cool you use Hoka, I have ran in Altra Torin's in the past. The Hoka feel really high compared to anything I have tried, but at this point if it will help my feet I will try anything :)

  3. I am struggling with my eating habits and weight. Or maybe not struggling enough and just giving in to temptation? This weather is driving me crazy because I can't figure out what to wear!

    1. I am totally giving in, daily. I feel a little lost without running. I make better decisions when I am running it seems. I need to find a way t get a grip on it.
      The weather is freaky lol

  4. What a great idea about the resusable K-cup. I love the convenience of my Keurig but do feel bad about generating so much waste with the disposable cups. And I hear you on the biking. My mountain bike ride yesterday was a bit ill advised. I didn't realize how smushy the trails would still be with the snow melt. I wound up having to push my bike through several sections and up a steep muddy climb because the back wheel just kept slipping. I suppose it was all exercise, it just wasn't the 3-3.5 hour ride coach assigned and I was expecting. But bike riding is all about the watts you put out and not about the speed, so I'll say you probably get a great workout.

    1. Thanks, we have enjoyed our reusable K cup :)
I was getting a work out for sure, but it was beating me up mentally. I wanted to ride long and enjoy the day lol

  5. Nice job on your workouts! We don't have a Keurig but the reusable cup is brilliant.

I've been doing a lot of biking (albeit indoors) since I injured my knee. It definitely is a good workout! I hope that we're both back to running in March. :) -C

The bike is a good work out!

  6. What a cutie! Puppies are the best -- especially when they're not your puppy!

My husband has tried several reuseable kcups but not liked any of them. Where did you get yours?

All that biking will keep you fit -- look at Holly!

Yes, it's always so easy to pack it on. I definitely indulged more than normal last week and gained a little over a pound, which I know doesn't sound like much (and the theme on my blog for most the week is going to center around weight), but I will bet you even if I lose this week, it won't be as much as I gained last week. Sucks!

Our tuesday started with sleet, then warmed up and rained ALL day (and yes, thankfully washed away what little snow we had for the most part, but not on the trails I tried to run on thursday, unfortunately).

    1. I love the benefit of seeing the puppy and playing with the puppy and not having to take care of a puppy LOL
I ordered an Ekobrew stainless steel - bed bath beyond carries it and few internet stores. It has worked great.
Biking does help, especially since i am hamstring/glute runner and that is how I bike, so it helps me with endurance but my weight and it doesn't do mentally what running did for me lol
I grow weary of the weight battle.

  10. I hope the combination of hoka and orthodics work for you. Are your orthodics for all your shoes ? they don't look like mine at all, isn't that weird ? Mine are only for my sneakers.
Now that I am over 40, the weight goes on easily but hardly comes off. :( I try to accept that I am getting older and let myself have a bit of everything but not overeat.

    1. Well that is interesting, I think my goal is to wear the inserts all day, but maybe I need to double check. I go in for a follow up in a few weeks. For now just a few hours a day and increase my walking time in them gradually.
I try to do what I can with weights and I still struggle with weight. I am not good with super disciplined either. It is really bugging me now, because i feel uncomfortable...
It is good accept where we are and just enjoy life. Maybe if I could run it would feel easier lol

    2. will send you a picture of my orthodics when I am at home. I asked specifically for ones for running because that was the only time I had pain

  12. Solid week! Great job staying so active when not running. That is definitely one of my weaknesses. no major workouts for me last week, just recovery.

  13. I'm with you on the gaining part! Mine goes straight to my hips too! And my body hold on to it with a death grip! Chandler is just the cutest thing. I have brought my dog to work with me. When the boss is out and I'm the only one here. He's a good watch dog and stays right under me. I wish I could bring him all the time! Did you go alone on the trail ride? I do love those socks! Thanks Karen for linking up with us!

    1. Ha! I know about that death grip LOL my middle area is challenged no matter how hard I work.
I miss having a dog, so I do enjoy a puppy at work. When I visit my mom in MT everyone has their dogs at work with them, it is very different.
I have been doing my trail and park rides solo. Hubby's hacking has been very persistent. Sunday was the first time he went to he gym in weeks with me.
Thanks, I love my compression :)

  15. Dang! Look at all those miles cycled! Those are TOTALLY going to transfer over to running. Applause to you for keeping going while you're on your running break - most people (ME, HA!) would just sit!!!

    That IS the cutest pup!!!

  16. That's exactly my issue with K cups: the waste. Hooray for reusable ones! You are cycling like a boss! I have no issue with the height of Hokas what is up with that? I'm glad your feet are happy in them and the doc approves. Winning indeed. Having that pup is the best of both worlds. All the fun with none of the cleanup. Yes please!

    1. I am like a real recycler now, I tamed my trash daily lol
Thanks, Marcia:) The Hoka's are so high it feels odd, but the base is wide, so it works and I feel stable. I guess that is all that matters... I can tell how much they have helped :)
Totally love not having the clean up lol

  17. Awwwww Chandler <3

You are a cycling machine! Way to get after it! Really hope that the Hokas + your feet + the road make for a magical combination this year too!

Thanks Kristina :) I am trying to keep the hips, hamstrings, and glutes strong and loose while I can't run.

  18. This has been the craziest winter I can remember (and I have seen quite a few). We had no snow in December until Christmas Eve...and there were some cold/windy/rainy days, but mild compared to what Iowa usually sees. January was cold, but the snow wasn't bad. February has been all over the map. It's hard knowing what to wear for layers because it seems like it's different every day. (and that little pooch is SOOOO adorable!!)

There was an ice storm mon into Tuesday but then sun came out and melted everything by afteroon and was in the 50s. That pup is adorable. My boss just bought a collie and she brings it into work everyday. It's nice to see her little face everyday.
