Marching On...

Last week I was dedicated to my mission. Time. For. A. Change.
I made a big swing in the right direction. My snacking habit improved for sure. I slept better and I didn't go in the red everyday with my calories :)

Monday4.01 mile run (41:36)
10 min. cool down/stretch
TuesdayArc machine (16:00)
Leg work out 70 min.
Wednesday Rest!
Thursday 4.01 mile run (42:50)
Walking 2.10 mi (36:22)
Friday Rest!
Saturday Biking around my neighborhood 10.26 mi (51:01) Stretching
Sunday Arc machine (18:00)
Upper body weights and core 100 min.

I did have a hard time falling asleep Sunday night, but I fell asleep, and I stayed asleep.

Monday ....
I got up and decided to run, so I could start the week off on a high note. This selfie didn't really work out. It is dark out!

Whoop there it is :)  I couldn't see my watch, I just went with what felt manageable.  My foot was a bit sore later in the day, but it wasn't bad. I ran in my little flex shoes and they really aren't enough support.

I went to the gym and did a leg work out. At the time I was questioning if I was pushing myself hard enough. Thursday, when I could still feel my quads going up and down the steps,  I decided the work out was good enough.

Rest day.
I did take a break from my desk, and took a short walk and ran up and down the stairs a few extra times though.

My new running shoes arrived in the mail...hear my sighing, yet another pair that didn't fit quite right. The search for shoes has been extremely frustrating. I have spent hours trying stuff on and nothing has been great. I started trying men's and they seem to work with my orthotics better in  7.
I went out and picked up a pair of Nike's, then came home, and went for a run.

Apparently, a stiffer sole isn't  going to work for me. It wasn't completely uncomfortable while I was running, but I felt clunky and my feet, both feet, felt fatigued. I gave up after a few miles, and actually returned the shoes the next day. The search for shoes continue.

I woke up and felt like I had gone back in time three months, my feet were sensitive and swollen. I was frustrated, but when I got in the shower I was completely freaked out. My right foot now looks like my left. My second toe is drifting, so the Capsulitis is progressing. You would think all the time I spent off my feet was enough to let the inflammation calm down, but no.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 was awesome. My kind of  movie, nothing blowing up, no stress, just laughter :)
A good distraction from my sore feet.

Stupid feet...
My feet are feeling better,  but I am afraid to try to run again, so I will be back on the bike next week.

I finally found a pair of Dansko shoes that fit.  After three months, I am going to graduate out of sneakers at work...finally.

I have no idea when I will make it back to running.  It is quite bothersome, but I still managed to keep my diet going in a good direction, I am still sleeping okay, and I have new shoes, so I am marching on...

Linking up with my gals, Holly @ hohoruns and Tricia@ MissSippiPiddlin for the weekly wrap up.
Join in the fun and share something from your week!

    1. I do think the shoes can make a huge difference. My feet didn't react like in the flexible sole shoes. I am freaked out that my foot could continue to change, I thought I was past that point in healing. I am being very low key this week and just letting my feet have a break :)

  2. Hang in there, Karen! I really hope you can find the right shoe and that your feet start to cooperate soon.

    1. The Dansko have been great so far! They are getting broken in now :) I am trying to decide if I can run in that type of sole.

  4. Oh no!!!!! I'm so sorry about your feet. I'm right there with you. I take time off, go back to the road and BAM the pain is back. After Big Sur, I'm going to start PT (Doctor's orders) to work on some 'kinetic chain' issues on my left side. Ugh. Why can't I just run?

I wear Danskos to work and they are awesomely supportive.

    1. I feel your pain! Why can't we just run, it is what we love.
      I hope the PT helps!
I am loving the Dansko, the stiffer sole doesn't bother me at all running around at work, I wondering if I could run in shoe with a vibram sole.

  5. Maybe it's time for another PT appt? Or several? I just went to my first yesterday. I *think* it was really helpful, but we'll see how the ankle feels after my race Sunday -- I think that will say a lot!

The shoe search is always so hard.

I know you didn't ask for opinions, of course, and it's always annoying when offered, but maybe it's too much running too soon? Too fast? After my hip pain in the fall of 2015, I took time off running and then returned with C25K.

I so hope you can find what works for you!

    1. Opinions or suggestions always welcome friend :) and I take it all to heart, this week I tried to run until I felt pressure - just 1.5 miles in I had to stop, so I trying to cut back :) and see how my feet react.
I am doing all the PT work on my own:) I hope the PT helps your ankle!

  8. So glad to have some news from you. It seemed good...until the Friday / sore feet part. Boo, but yeah for Dansko shoes !
You have tried on all the running brand shoes ? Crazy that you can not find something that fits right.

My orthodics are foam and I only wear them in my sneakers.

    Sending you lots of hugs.....

    1. Foam ?! Interesting...
He has really changed the load in my foot with mine, but the shoe search is a pain lol
My Pure Connect actually feel okay but my feet really roll out in them do he was worried if I didn't find a better fit I would have a new injury.
I will get there. I just hit worn out putting so much time into it :) I took a break from it this week, but I haven't given up :)
Thanks for thinking of me! I appreciate your hanging with me while I try to work through this :)

  9. That's so frustrating about trying all the different shoes :( I wish it was easier. Keep being smart about it and taking rest, like you are!

  10. Sorry your having such a difficult time finding the right pair of shoes.
I've always been afraid to try shoes in the mail myself, but I guess you can always send them back, right?
Have you considered trying a local specialty running store? I know all the ones by me, let you try on the shoes run around the building and on the treadmills. I like have a way I like to do it when I am trying for a new shoe. I have them bring me a pair in each kind (yeah it's quite a pile, LOL) I put a different shoe on each foot and then run around the store. Whichever, feels the best stays on the foot, and the other I put a different shoe and each run I selectively go through them all and keep the one that feels the best. Once I have tried several pairs and I get down to one, I do one last run around the room in the pair I have narrowed down to, and those are the ones I buy. Any specialty store should let you do that, if they don't then pick a different one that does.
Good luck, hope you find a pair that works great for you!

    1. I have been at a few specialty stores but one the guy seemed really baffled lol so I went to Dick's and just started trying stuff. If I could find a model then I figured I could order a better color online... but nothing I loved yet!
I had hoped the Topo would work and there are close, so I may try a different model in that brand. Shipping can get $$ though.
I like your process of elimination lol I will remember that!

  11. What a bummer that you are having such a tough time finding the right pair of running shoes! You WILL find them, though. There are so many options out there, and thankfully most stores have pretty good return policies if things don't work out. I second the suggestion of trying a local specialty running store. I went to one where they did a computerized analysis of my gait, plus had me fill out a questionnaire about all of my preferences, habits, etc. I've come away each time with shoes that I really loved! Hopefully they can help you just as much!

    BIG HUGS!!!!!!!

    1. That is cool the store did a computerized analysis - o don't think any here do that.
I haven't given up, but I did need a break from it this week lol
I will find the shoe eventually!

  12. Don't get frustrated Karen. You'll find the right shoes. How are your feet responding to walking? If the answer is good, maybe start again with more of a run/walk method? I totally get it -- we just want to RUN. Oh, I want to see that movie. The first one was awesome. Thanks for linking with us!

    1. The movie is great!
I am trying to go a lot less this week and just give the feet more rest.
I think I will be doing all run walk, while I really want to run, I want to be able to be on my feet even if it is just walking. I am not sure why my poor bike is not getting more love, but after I ride a week I feel done lol short or long...

  13. Ugh there's so many foot/feet issues going on lately. It's like it's going around like a stomach bug or something. I hope you have a breakthrough in the shoe search soon! (by the way... try saying 'shoe search soon' three times fast)

I really want to see My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. Maybe this weekend!

  16. Karen, I am so sorry to hear about all you foot problems. I every time, I read another blog it seems like someone else is suffering with foot issues. I wish I could help each and everyone of you out. As a podiatrist, I am baffled to hear about all these foot issues. I know this may sound like very old fashion but have you tried soaking them in epsom salt? It seems like as we age, we lose magnesium which is important for our muscles. I know that was just a shot in the dark.

    1. Thanks Nicole I will take any suggestion and try it. This has been a much longer process than I hoped, but I am trying to let that tissue have time to at least heal in place and then hopefully I can move on. I have not soaked in epsom salt in a long time, it surely can not hurt to try :)
