It's Just A Mile

Monday feels like so long ago

It started off with six happy miles, that made for lots of smiles.

Tuesday I "slept in" till 6 a.m. Bagheera likes to stay snuggled  right by my side.

Hump Day I was so excited it was roller-coaster day
I ran fast!
For real, I wasn't even sure I could do that anymore ;)

I made a separate post about my vacation day.
Kenny and I propelled from the top of this!
Beyond words! Click here when you have time :)
I defied gravity for a minute, well actually I proved gravity!
I fell like a rock LOL

Thursday, the last day of the month I took a walk and did 100 push ups - in sets :)
Good thing because I have been a complete slacker at my weight training.

Friday, it was as humid as it can get, but since my run was so short Wednesday, I decided to skip my interval run for the week and give 7 miles a shot!

I am off on Fridays now, so I started late...5:58 a.m., which really isn't that late but, all my usual sprinklers were off.  I did it, slow and steady, but whew! was I hot.

I have been running six miles this past last month without intervals, I figured it's just another  mile, right?!

About a half mile from the finish, my feet were done, but I was thrilled to make it this far! So, here's what...six miles is okay, but seven...mmmmph, not really. Weird, huh? Clearly, I don't make the rules, my feet do. I was a little worried I had pushed too much, the balls of my feet felt like pins were pricking in for a few days.

And here's what else....argggh, my legs muscles were shot! This is the first time I have felt that fatigued in a long time. I ended up napping, I was completely tore up.
It's just a mile...amazing what a difference it made.
Updated info: I woke up Monday feeling better and broke right through that ceiling. I am hard headed, I had to try again and see if I could do it.

Okay, back to last week...

Saturday I tried some yoga after I read Wendy's 5 plank flow post
I never got to the planking lol I started with some basics and realized I am very uncoordinated and clumsy...baby steps.

Sunday...let's not cover Sunday. It was raining so I couldn't bike, and my feet hurt enough I didn't want to push it and run or even walk.
Then my cats washed my socks...blah, blah, blah.
I would like to say I didn't waste the day away, but I did.

Oh well. I was just resting up for Monday :)

I am linking up with my gals for the Weekly Wrap

When is the last time you felt completely wiped out!?
Do your animals do laundry?
Bungee jump anyone?

  1. That is weird just one more mile and your body was like HELL NO! I say try again, what if it's a fluke? You know one day we feel great and the next day we feel crappy, no rhyme or reason. Try again!

So wait, did your kitties put your socks in their water dish!?

Chrissy plays with his water dish. He moves it 5 feet from where it's supposed to be. He's a freaking train wreck.

    1. I thought it was strange too, that I was so wiped out. I did try again today and felt better! I thought maybe it just the humidity sucking the life out of me lol it was humid today, but not as bad.
Yes, My cat Junior washes anything I leave out, he is teaching the baby bad habits.
Ha, mine use to move the dish, the dish I have now is very heavy lol

  3. Nice job on the workouts last week! I used to love big rides, scary roller coasters but as I have gotten older, my body sort of rejects them (I get motion sickness)--kind of bums me out. I have done that Xtreme Flyer ride! Glad I was able to experience that--it's pretty crazy.

    1. You know what is weird...swinging on a regular swing will make me feel kind of nauseous lol I think my peripheral can catch stuff and it makes it worse! Roller coasters I can't focus lol it would bum me out if i felt that way too!
Oh that flyer is awesome!! you are a dare devil - like it ;)

    2. The swings make me feel "like I've been drinking Jack and Coke all morning" (bonus points if you know what movie that is...but completely understand if you don't cuz not many people do).

  5. I gotta say, we've got 6 miles on the schedule this weekend and that is 2 more miles than I've run any day since my last half in May! So yeah, I have a feeling I'll be a bit tired Saturday.

I was totally going to do some ST today. But then I ran early this morning, I walked/ran with Bandit, and then I walked with Lola and it's humid and I am done! I'm thinking maybe yoga tonight. Or not. I really need to do some baking but right now the dogs are sleeping and it's kind of rare for Bandit to relax much so I don't want to disturb him . . .

The things we do for our animals . . .

    1. It is funny how those miles can affect us! Hopefully it'll be an enjoyable run for you.
I know, the animals rule lol
My ST is still slacking, I need to get busy lol

  6. I used to hear people say they'd done "100 pushups" and be like OMG HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?! But doing them in sets makes so much more sense!! Still impressive, though.

It's funny what one more mile can do. But I also remember that that "one more mile" is on top of all my previous week's miles PLUS walking on a vacation day etc. So sometimes the day we add the extra mile makes all the difference! Still, when I'm first building mileage, sometimes I just add half a mile at a time to be safe!

    1. I wish I could do like 25 in a row but still not able most days...You know how it is, I will have a good day every so often but as general rule push ups still feel hard.
You are right some days a mile may be a much bigger challenge. The weather is making all of the days challenging for now lol

  8. Bagheera does laundry!?!?!? If she wants more practice, I'd be happy to share lots of opportunities with her at my home! =) It is amazing how a mile can either feel like nothing or feel like eternity on the body. Glad you broke through the ceiling and felt so much better on Monday! Congratulations on 100 pushups and your yoga!!! My yoga instructor always says, "There's a reason we call it yoga PRACTICE - it's a lifelong journey!" =)

  10. Great job, Karen! I totally understand where you are coming from on yoga! I could barely get in the poses when I started and I was far too embarrassed to actually attend a class. There was lots of falling over and awkwardness. I've slowly got to a place where I feel like I am doing the poses correctly and I am starting to feel the benefit!

  11. Even if it's "just a mile" it's further than you've been going and I am not surprised you felt it! I would always feel that way when increasing my long run distances each weekend - the amount I increased (usually two miles) always felt so hard! Then then next week, I could do it, and the next two felt hard. LOL. Silly bodies.

  12. I don't know how I missed this post but here I am! Isn't it amazing how one extra mile can be so hard? And let's talk about our feet. WTH is wrong with mine? They just hurt so bad now. I didn't run yesterday except at the pool and I couldn't walk when I woke up. I took ibuprofen and went to yoga and I feel so much better. But what is going on?

Ok, I feel better now. I think I need to see a doctor, tho. Sigh.

    1. Awww Wendy, I want you to feel better because I know how flipping frustrating it is! I feel like you gave your feet quite a good break. Trust me, I wish I had a remedy.
Sometimes a mile feels very far, like this morning lol I was hot but I hung in there :)

  13. Cats that can do laundry? Sign me up! I LIVE in my laundry room. Well, I already know you were able to get that extra mile! Baby steps...you said it. Your day at the amusement park looked like so much fun. I loved Six Flags as a kid. I couldn't sleep from pure excitement for days beforehand. I think those feet are on the mend -- or at least down with the program. Thanks for linking, Karen!

The water bowl always makes me laugh!! But I hate cleaning up lol
I was the same way as a kid, I never slept!
I just keep praying at the end of this month I feel like I can challenge my feet a little more ;)

  14. Hey Lady! Glad to read you are running and seem to be doing really good except for the 7 mile thing. Crazy your legs got so fatigued with the extra mile as well! I have never bungee jumped and can't say that I am all that tempted. It looks so scary!

  15. Bungee jumping. I'm a lover of all amusement park rides, but I'm not sure if I could do the bungee thing....maybe over a lake (so I wouldn't have a "hard" landing if something went wrong) ;-)
