Friday 2.0

  • Friday always gets me fired up because it closes another work week...I started clock watching at 7:10 a.m. Am I off yet?????Am I off yet??

  • A really long run! 20 miles...This makes me super nervous. #1 goal get through training without further damage.I am going to go with the flow and see how my foot holds up.  I plan to go the distance, but I am willing to stop at 18.  I will save that pushing for racing day...

  •  After my long run is done I have eight runs to go. Just eight!! Eight runs! I can't believe it.

  • I was doing really well with my diet until this week...I just got hungry! I have increased my calorie count just a bit the past few days. I need to reign in it. I need to keep my weight in check for race day.

  • Did I mention I am really nervous about my 20 mile run. I have two packs of sports beans and plenty of Nuun. Should I take more fuel? I was thinking oatmeal raisin cookie lol because I love them so much!

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

  1. Good luck with that long run! It sounds like you've got a good plan and it makes sense to save the pushing for race day. And my answer to oatmeal raisin cookies is always yes :)

  2. You'll do great on your run. Bring lots of snacks. Maybe some pretzels in case you need something salty instead of sweet? Good luck!!

  3. Yes!! only 6.5 hours to go now!

You will totally rock those 20 miles!

I remember the Runger after those long runs!! We could not keep enough food around! I would suggest to take the oatmeal cookie, but you know how I am always hungry, and how I don't like to run hungry. Do whatever feels best for you! You got this!

  4. You'll do great. I'm assuming you are doing the Richmond MTT training. They will have some good treats at the SAGS. I tend not to take all of my fuel because I keep eating the gummy bears at the SAG. Good luck and you can do all 20!!! Can't wait to hear all about it.

  6. You are going to do great on your 20-miler! Some of the best advice I ever heard was from Hal Higdon, who said said it doesn't matter how quickly or slowly you do your long runs - what matters is that you cover the prescribed distance. So feel free to take it as slowly as you need to. And YES on the cookie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Ha that's how my Friday goes too. Count down the hours.

Bring lots of snacks or gels. 20 miles is a good distance to try out your race day fueling.

  12. You'll do great on your 20 mile run! How do you chew anything though? I can't. Which day are you planning to run? And EEK -- only 8 more runs after that. You're almost done.

  15. I think it's really hard to watch your calories and build your mileage. I'd try to focus on healthy food and not worry too much about it. Good luck with that 20 miler!

    1. It is a challenge! I am trying to make good choices and just have something sweet when I reallllly have a craving. 20 was so tough!!! but it is done.

  16. It's only 2 miles farther than your 18 miler. Really nothing, if you think about it...

  17. you totally got this 20-miler!! My 20- miler isn't for a couple weeks yet...and I get nervous, not about the distance, but about figuring out a route. I try to do 5-7-mile increments, loop back to my house (refuel, potty, hydrate) between the loops. Breaking up the total distance has always worked great for me. Good luck!!!!

    1. Yes, that is a great plan. We knew we had six water stops the team set up so we just counted the stops down. I never looked at my watch, until very late in the run...
It was so hard though! I am glad it is done :) Good luck with yours!!

  18. On long runs, I always take more food than I need but I figure it is better than bonking. Kind of annoying having to carry it, but you never know if you'll need it. You got this Karen !

    1. I ended up not getting my cookie! and truthfully I probably could not have eaten it...I was not able to eat anything by mile 8 or so. I ate my sports beans early, but I had a time in the later miles.
