Deeeez Aches

I am linking up with my awesome running gal pals Holly  and Tricia
Join in the fun 💙  Tara @ Run and Live Happy is hosting this week!

Last week I jinxed myself by writing I usually bounce back last week. 🙊 🙉🙈

It was a non-running kind of week.  My ankle started feeling really funky after I ran Tuesday morning. I felt twinges of pain when I was walking up and down the steps at work, then it felt weak a few times, it ached...and I got nervous, like I always do that something was fractured. Since I've had a stress fracture I always extra paranoid.

I looked at an ankle diagram and thought, well dang, that is complicated. It hurt right under the knot on the ankle so it is likely ligament or tendon, but who knows...I couldn't get to the foot and ankle specialist, it was the last week of school -too busy!  Ice, compression, and no running was my routine.

I think I must have tweaked it when I fell last week. I tore up my left knee, however I landed on my right hand and cut it. My right wrist was sore, it took all week before I could grip anything w/o pain. I have no recollection of how I tore up both sides of me, it happened too fast, so I can not be certain I twisted something, but it seems likely.
Anyhoo...I tested my ankle Saturday and it felt fine while running and I had much less discomfort later in the day, so I think whatever was irritated is on the mend, but it really screwed up my last week of training.  Next half marathon is June 24th. Yikes!!!

Monday- lazy
Tuesday- 5 mile run
Wednesday- 30 min. arc machine/50 min. upper body work
Thursday- lazy again
Friday-  1 hour arc machine/40 min. core, legs, stretching
Saturday- 4 mile run/1.6 mile walk
Sunday- 1 hour arc machine/20 minutes arms

9 miles run and I planned to do 28...I guess you can't win 'em all! I am trying not to worry, but I am!!   ¯\_()_/¯
Hoping the time on the arc machine will help.
Do you think it will?!

On a completely different note, Tweek my 15 year old cat was extremely ill and lethargic for days, not eating, and lost a lot of weight, but he rallied a few days ago and took a turn for the better. My toothless wonder started eating baby food (chicken and broth- no onion or garlic for cats) and now has progressed to soft Rachel Ray food. He is back to being chatty and it brings joy to my heart.

How was your week?
Thanks for stopping by!!

  2. I am so sorry about both the ankle & Tweek -- but since it sounds like all is on the mend, all's well that end's well & hopefully both will continue to get better.

Hey, you should be tapering anyway! That half is this weekend! Go get it -- I know you can.

My ankles frequently ache on runs these days -- but never when we were in UT. Weird, huh? I was thankful for that!

And yes, I do think the Arc will help.

    1. Thanks Judy, I was a bit torn up worrying about my kitty, I am so glad he is better.
It is always odd to me how things will suddenly ache and just clear up! I try not to worry until it is consistent pain.
I hope the arc helps! I could feel it in my glutes this morning when I ran LOL

  3. I'm glad you and Tweek are both on the mend. It's so scary and annoying to have an issue so close to race day!

  4. Glad to hear you and your cat are feeling better.

Don't worry about your training. It is what it is. Just finish the race and you are a winner.

I have trained well and had a slow time and not trained well and had a fast one. You never know with this running thing...

  5. Awwww Tweeky poo, I'm glad he's back! I'm sorry about your ankle but glad it is feeling better. I always get disheartened when I see diagrams of my body because I'm always like, shit, that's really complicated and it's no wonder I'm always hurting!

  6. I hope your ankle is feeling better, and gets better quickly so you can get back to running. It still looks like you had a good week of working out. I'm sorry your kitty isn't feeling well. I'm glad he started eating again! I hope you have a great week!

  7. Awww...sweet Tweek! Hope he is feeling better soon! I'm sure you must've irritated your ankle during your fall...the timing is just too coincidental. I'm impressed with your patience and taking it a little easier by using the arc trainer, that is so hard to do when you have a half coming up so soon! You will be ready girl!

    1. Thank you! I was tempted to push on and run but common sense prevailed!!
      I hope the arc helps!!
Tweeky is the best kitty but I am biased :)

  9. I'm glad the ankle is better! It's always something right before a race!! I had a very sick dog last week. I'm glad both of our pets are feeling better! The nine miles plus the arc trainer was a good call. No worries! You've got the training to run that half. Most of all, enjoy it!

  11. I am happy Tweek is feeling better! And that you are too!

There is a typo in your post - instead of "lazy" it should say "rest." Everyone needs rest days! :-*

  12. Glad your foot is doing better! And that your cat is on the mend too :) He looks so sweet in that photo.

  13. Oh wow, I'm glad your cat is doing better! I've been through that several times with my elder cats and it's tough - but sounds like yours bounced right back. Yeah!!!
I hope all is well with that foot too. I cringed reading about it. I usually rely on a "hop test" to assure me that I'm good to go. Good luck on that half coming up... I'll be watching out for it on Instagram :)
