Don't Let It End ♪♪

Bonus points if you know who sang the song in my title!

I am linking up with my awesome running gal pals Holly  and Tricia  for the weekly wrap!
Heather @ 3 Black Cat Co is hosting this week! Stop by and show her some love.

Something happened this week I was not expecting.

10K Friday with my run buddy comes to a close.😢 I thought we had a few more weeks together, but she said this will be her last one. I was bummmmed. My run buddy recently moved to Richmond so we've been exploring new routes and it was fun to run in a new area. We discovered it is much shadier than the running routes around our neighborhood (mine still) and we had fun running and chatting away the miles!

Run buddy's daughter is starting school next week so she'll be busy getting back on a school schedule. She home schools her three and they have a home school co-op on Fridays.

I have four more weeks of ten hour days before I change back to five days. Anyone want to come hang out with me and run!? I only cry a little now in the heat! JK 😂

via GIPHY

Public school here doesn't start until September 5th, and teachers come back on August 28th.  We also have Orientation days and other training activities before all that happens! August is going to get #holottabusy for me soon.

Anyway, it was another sweaty 10K and this week we tackled some hills. We didn't mean too LOL We were just exploring new streets ~ wooooza was it challenging. It wasn't 80+ for this one, but it was humid and in the 70's and honestly, 73 -75 doesn't feel that much easier to me, but we keep moving and get 'er done!

I sucked my pack dry. Almost 2 liters with Nuun. When I got home I was still thirsty, sometimes I am amazed at how much I can drink. I chug a lot of water and unsweetened ice tea, it seems like the more I chug the more I need. Do you ever feel that way?!

I feel a bit of self imposed pressure to pick up the pace when there is a temperature or humidity break. Sunday we had a random cooler low humidity morning. I love those! It feels so good to push myself and not be overheating, but I did wonder to myself, "Why can't I slow down, just relax and enjoy not sweating buckets???!"
I really think it is my pay off for all the months of hot humid miles. I need to feel like there is a reward for all the hard work, or else I'd just be crazy right?! So I feel like I must run faster...
Do you ever feel like this?!

Seriously, my 10:22 avg felt like I was flying 💫 and it made me tired 🙌

I continued on with Clarinda's fitness challenge

The challenge ends on the 10th! I have done all the exercises except one...side lunges, I  just couldn't get my body to move that way, so I bailed on that one.  I figured it would be burpees or mountain climbers I wouldn't be able to handle, but I managed those. In the end, side lunges and single leg deadlifts were the hardest thing ever. Balance is a real issue for me...weakness exposed. Each week I did a mini workout with several things off the calendar. Thanks Clarinda for motivating me to try new things!

This is how my week went...

Sunday - Fun Five - 5.51 mi 0:57:03 (10:22 avg)
                  Walking - 3.19 mi 1:03:38
Run - 22.74 mi

These shoes 💓

These are Hoka Hupana's and I am loving them. I only have 30 miles on them, but they have been 30 happy miles for my feet. I think I will still be doing long runs in my Clifton 3's which have more cushion, but I am thrilled to have a lower profile option from Hoka. I had to return my normal size and go a half size smaller because this model does run long, which felt odd but the fit is just right.  It is a win when I can find shoes that work well for me! It has been a long journey.

My feet update is that things are about the same. I still have pain in the ball of my feet and toes. The right foot continues to be more of a noise maker than my left, even though it was the left foot that had the tear in it. I have good days and bad, so I try to take it day by day and back off when I need to. My orthotics are the key to my running.  I have tested it a few times and the pain comes on sooner and lingers if I don't wear them.  My 👣 are much more manageable when I take longer runs of the mix, so I am a little nervous to start training again for my Fall races, but I won't know unless I try! I will continue to use intervals when I do anything double digit and run a few more half marathons this year and see how I hold up. My last half wasn't really a typical course or run, so it wasn't a good gauge. I think I am finally at a place where I could give up running half marathons if it will help me stay healthy and running longer. Those daily 4 -6 mile runs are my sanity. I am going to take each day as it comes and see how it goes until the end of the year.
Honestly, I've been getting more miles in than I thought possible, however, every so often I need a little mini break because I can feel the tightness and tenderness creeping up. This week may end up being much lighter to give myself some recovery time.

Thanks for hanging with me, I know this was wordy!

Truth...I have no get up and go about celebrating my B-day this year, I am trying to think of something to do.
Ideas? What do you do for birthdays in your family?
Random question - I let my hair air dry a few times this week, I just twist it up and go to work. Would you go to work with wet hair? Is that bad etiquette?
Do you blow dry your hair?

Questions from my post!
Do you ever feel the more you drink, the more you need?
Do you feel pressure to pick up the pace when it cools off?

Thanks for stopping by!! Have a great week ❤
Karen

  1. Taking it day by day is a good idea. I feel so much less pressure in my running when I take one day at a time! I don't think it's bad form to go to work with wet hair. I used to do it all the time when my hair was longer!

    1. I will have to see how i feel the next few months, I've enjoyed just winging it...I guess I will re evaluate at the end of they year.

  2. So smart to take it day by day! Even though I'm in training mode now I still like to just focus in on the workout I have that day and try not to think too far ahead.

  3. Oh yes, I definitely feel the pressure to pick up the pace when it cools off. The problem for me is going to be that I've barely run any at all this summer, so I'm afraid I've lost some of my running stamina which will make it even harder for me to pick up the pace when I do return to running. Oh well, it's all about having fun and just moving our bodies, right??

I do blow dry my hair but don't like to because it makes my hair so dry and frizzy. Mine does much better when I let it dry on its own but that takes FOREVER as it's horse tail thick!

You're doing a great job getting in so many miles this summer ...I'm super impressed and proud of you!

    1. Thanks! I feel pretty good about my running this summer.
You are lucky your hair looks better without blow drying! Mine needs to be dried but I am too lazy most days lol
I bet all those cycle miles will make for some happy runs this fall :)

  4. That's why I like having a coach, she tells me what paces to shoot for & I just do that. :)

I almost never blow dry my hair -- which is why, when I worked (and even now), I typically wash it in the afternoon. Otherwise I would've had icicles in my hair when I lived in VT (and worked full time outside the home).

I'm sorry about your run buddy. :( Darlene & I don't run together much because I have a group on the weekends & she has a run buddy who is better suited to her pace. So there are a lot of solo runs. it's really hard to find the right run buddy!

It really is hard to find run buddies, I know a few but they are so much faster than me! That is good you have a group on weekends.

  5. I always, ALWAYS, blow dry my hair. I have a lot of hair, but it's really fine and if I don't give it some heat (and product), it looks totally flat and nasty. And that would be a Styx song up above ;-) I always run 3.14 miles for my March 14th birthday.

You got it - Styx lol I loved them back in the day!!
My hair texture is like that, it does better with heat. I am considering cutting my hair again so I can get it done quicker.

  6. You have a birthday coming up! how exciting! My birthday is at the end of the month, and I don't like doing anything for it. Just a nice run and a meal. I do call my mom and thank her for giving birth to me!

Those new shoes look pretty cool!

  7. Sorry to hear your feet have been giving you problems again :( I hope they get better soon. Happy upcoming birthday :) How about a little day trip somewhere to celebrate? I love day trips to the beach. Of course, a nice dinner out is always a nice celebration too.

  8. Yes! Faster running when it's cooler is definitely the payoff for slogging through the awful summer weather right now. We had a teeny break last week with some cooler weather and it was nothing short of amazing. Where is winter? :-) My birthday was 8/5. I ran 3 miles (8-5=3). Whatever works. Haha! I also went out with friends for the first time in about 5 years this year for my birthday (usually, I have no birthday mojo). Low key evening by the water. Perfect!

ha!I like the birthday equation...I have run minutes, miles, by date, age, I am not sure what to do yet... 8-10 = would be rest day for me!
By the water sounds very nice :)

  9. Really great that you've learned so much about what keeps your feet happy. You won't know how they'll feel at longer distances yet, but it's good to recognize you'd be happy with not training for longer distances if you have to. At least you can still run regularly, and that's a great thing! I'm the wrong person to ask about hair etiquette. Some days I go to work with my hair still sweaty and in a ponytail from running. But I figure, do they want me to work on time, or do they want me late but with pretty hair?

    1. Thanks, it has been a long process coming to a point where I feel like I will be okay if the distances don't work well for me, but I am going to try a few more times lol I have to be feel sure.
Ha! I love it...when anyone comments about how I don't look put together I say I am here aren't I?! I am so glad it is not just me!

  10. I almost always go to work with wet hair. Ain't nobody got time for blow dryers! You've had a great summer of consistent running. Just think of how far you've come with those feet. You could run your birthday mileage. You know...2.9 miles for 29 years. ;)

    1. My feet have given me some pretty good miles. I'll see how distance factors in and maybe i can have it all for awhile, we'll see :)
Ha! 2.9 sounds kind of dreamy lol

  12. Awww, I know the feeling. I had a good friend that I ran with, and then her schedule changed and we stopped running together. It's a bummer :( But hang in there, because you are doing awesome on your running and workouts! I have gone from 15 to 18 burpees now because of you, but I'm sure I won't be hitting 40!! Keep up the inspiration :)

  13. Happy Birthday Friend! I hate your running buddy is leaving. Boo!
Our schools use to start the week after Labor Day like when I was a kid, I know that's been a long time but now our schools start the first week in August! I wish they would move it back to September!
I almost always go to work or head to work with my hair wet. I mean really you can't control this stuff! Usually by the time I get there it is about dry!

  14. Happy Birthday! :)
I go to work with wet hair, simply because I shower at the gym in the mornings and don't feel like lugging my hair dryer and straightener with me. So I just wear it curly. I think if I style it curly but still wet, I'm not worried about looking unprofessional. I'm not the best at putting it up though - that's when I feel a little less put together.
